Hope you all are having a great week! Spring’s in full force here in Austin and our entire week has been filled with rain and the weekend looks like it’s going to shape up to be the same. Although, I’m excited for Spring I wish I could bypass the rainy season. It’s simply so depressing!
With all the dreary weather we’ve had here are a few things that have made my week extra bright!
Tulips! I adore tulips, probably one of my favorite flowers and this week after coming home late from work one night I was greeted with these beautiful lavender tulips from <3M. I love the pop of color and Spring they bring to our kitchen!
This summer marks another round of Olympics and Under Armour just released a new motivational video starring swimmer, Michael Phelps who is training for his final race taking place in Rio in August. Although there’s been a lot of controversy around Phelps and his lifestyle choices, his athleticism cannot be denied. He truly is the greatest swimmer of all time and this video showcases the pain and sacrifice that goes into training. I believe UA sums it up best.. “It’s what you do in the dark, that puts you in the light.”
While shopping at West Elm this week I had to restrain myself from bringing home their entire Fishs Eddy collect of cake inspired dessert plates, bowls, and tea towels. I don’t know what design is more cute, the cupcakes with a cherry on top or the traditional sprinkle cupcakes. I also love the quotes on the dessert plates. “You’re the frosting on top!” #adore
This week was also International Women’s Day which sparked a few articles about the gender wage gap. There was an article in this month’s issue of Women’s Health that really hit the mark titled “Don’t Get Mad. Get Ahead.” It highlight the steps both women and men can take to shed more light on the issue and decrease the gap. Huffington Post also had a short article that stated the gender gap is only WIDENING. Such a disappointing fact to hear and it’s even more upsetting to think that this issue isn’t a daily topic of conversation. It seems it peaks during times like International Women’s Day or most prominently when Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In was published.
Lastly, even you need something bright and tasty to make this weekend, check out my Lemon Pound Cake recipe. It has a sweet-lemony flavor that’s perfect to indulge in on a weekend afternoon!
What’s your plans this weekend?
What cheered you up during this bout of rain?
